K's For a Kure, the inspirational Jamieson Raby.

jamiesonraby

Wintech Racing is proud to support Jamieson in his fund raising efforts for Leukaemia.  His inspiring story is below.

My name is Jamieson Raby, I'm 17 years old and currently attend The Southport School on the Gold Coast going into grade 12.  One of my family friends was diagnosed with Leukaemia recently, Bree Mitchell is 13 years old and is currently being treated up at Brisbane Royal Children's Hospital. I have decided to take action and move forward in raising funds for her treatment. I have decided to call the Fundraiser “K’s For A Kure” I will be aiming to row a total of 300+ Kilometers in a single rowing scull over a period of 24 days, Rowing an average of 1,500strokes per day and 2 and a half hours on the water each day. With a goal of 300 strokes and minimum required funds for the treatment i would need to be on the water for at least 2 hours a day 6 days a week for 4 weeks. Having an average target of 2,880 minutes or 48 hours on the water in total, and rowing on average 15kilometers a day. I will be blogging my daily rowing sessions via a facebook page which has all the information on my fundraiser as well as updated information on the daily sessions including stroke count, minutes rowed and most importantly kilometers traveled. I will be recording my sessions from when I hit the water until I finish via the GoPro camera supplied by TSS rowing. At the end of each week I will be composing a video of the week that has just passed with a combination of stills and video footage. My daily routine goes as follows:

4:30am quick snack, organize Camera and strap down the oars to the Hull.

5:00am Scull is ready to go heading outside the gate

5:00am – 5:10 Getting from my house to the block of land is a 500m walk with the scull resting on my shoulder.

5:15am On the water warming up.

5:15am – 5:35 Getting from launch point to lake Orr is a 6kilometer row taking 15 – 20 mins.

5:30am – 7:30am Doing 1kilometer pieces on lake Orr.

7:30am – 7:50am Rowing 6 kilometers back to launch point.

7:50am – 8:00am Walk the boat back to the house then wash down.

8:00am – 8-30am Download video footage onto computer and blog about the morning session

8:30am Morning session is completed with 1,500 strokes approximately 2hours on the water and 15 – 20 kilometers covered. Breakfast time!

This daily routine is repeated for 4 weeks with only 4 days rest rowing 6 mornings a week including Christmas. I will be launching at a few different sites around the coast to mix it up a little bit keep in touch with the facebook page to find out where. My final session on day 24 will be a row from Launch point through my normal course up to bond university where I will have to lift the boat over a weir and place it on the other side. From there I will row through Mermaid waters followed by Broadbeach waters then connecting up to the Nerang river finishing down the home straight in front of the school. At the completion of my 300kilometers I will be shaving my head for the worlds greatest shave organized by the leukaemia Foundation. Hopefully I can raise enough awareness about this disease that many family’s may have to face at some stage in their life. I am giving up a part of my holidays because I know there are other people out there that are less fortunate. Bree Mitchell was diagnosed at the start of Christmas holidays and would be spending Christmas in the hospital being treated for leukaemia. Many people have a thousand things running through there mind at this time of there year. Some people are thinking about what presents they want or where there next holiday will be. Bree wishes for one things, To get better. No young boy or girl should have to spend the most exciting time of the year like this. K’s For A Kure isn’t going to treat Bree but support will. So please Jump on board with me and lets make aware of what many people don’t think twice about.

Merry Christmas,
Jamieson Raby
